I have been hearing about tablets and how they are the wave of the future. I even own and Android phone, so I understand the basic concept of how many of the popular ones work. Being a closet technology junkie myself, I have been tempted over and over again to have a tablet. They just seem so cool, and so portable!
So for the past couple of years, I have been imagining the day I, too, could be a proud tablet owner. I envisioned all the fun things I could do while traveling, and how much use I could get out of a new tablet.
That all changed the other day, however, when I visited my doctor and he let me play with his tablet. Color me completely unimpressed. Between using it myself and watching him do his research on it, I was appalled at how un-user friendly it really was. Sure, it may be more portable than a laptop, at about half the size, but it is way more cumbersome to use.
In the time it took him to hold the pen with one hand, while awkwardly scrolling with the other, I could have loaded, read and printed the document he was trying to look at.
Boy, do I feel let down. After all the anticipation, the fantasies of strolling through the wildflowers, lovingly clutching my precious tablet, it turns out that my outdated laptop is really my one true love. At least now I can put that money to something else, like a new Android phone.
